Swoon, one of the most original street artists to emerge in New York during the past decade, embarks on “Swimming Cities of Switchback Sea”, a indoor/outdoor exhibition with Deitch Projects.
In the early evening of Sept 7th, seven floating sculptures by the artist will dock in front of Deitch Studios on the East River in LIC as their final stop on a three-week journey down the Hudson River and around the tip of Manhattan. Stopping along the way for musical and theatrical performances, this two-part exhibition merges Swoon’s recent portraits, found objects of urban decay and a floating sculptural city.
Swoon’s indoor installation creates an image of a city rising from the sea, held within the cathedral-like spaces of Deitch’s Studios.

he has lent his work to a series of 7” picture discs from the likes of Lucky Dragons, Parenthetical Girls, Casiotone and about a zillion “coming soons”. As well, he has taken on an ambitious project for Xiu Xiu - one thousand copies, each with an individual, unique Polaroid picture taken by Horvitz, some copies on white vinyl, most on black, gone for good when they run out
i’m kind of intrigued by the fact that he will send (hard copies at a price and email for free) you a picture of the sky every day for a year…
